I step off the ring. Numb to the emotion of who won or lost the fight. What did I do well? What could I have done better? (more questions perhaps?) I try to play it over in my head. My mind continues to flash with questions.
As my mind fills up with unanswered questions. my body demands much-needed attention. I fall from fight-mode back into reality. I start to loosen up, I feel the bruise in my left shin. (elaborate a little on how you feel and deal with post fight feelings)
I take a shower and clear my head – the fight is over. I did it!
I caught up with my family, my friends. We share pizza and guzzle beer, and we laugh and joke about things. I feel more light-hearted, liberated – free. The fight was like a blast, a combined effort of the leading weeks of hard work all put together in under 5 minutes and I am glad it paid off.
Now, I can re-charge. I can finally rejuvenate myself. Get back to myself on a human-level. And then: I watch the fight. I look back on the explosion. And I understand how I can focus better for the next round. It’s back to the grind: it’s back to the constant training and clean eating.
After all – when you are in the ring, it is all worth it.
At. All of it.
