Labor Day Weekend = a mini-vacation for most people. My most memorable ones are those where I get to surf. I started surfing in 2004, but lately I haven't had enough time to go on that much-needed surf trip. Luckily, I made it to Baler in Quezon Province for a weekend of surfing fun waves.
Surfing is a sport that requires a LOT of physicality: constantly paddling to catch waves, recovering from wipeouts, working your core and balance.
But what I love most is that there is a sense of "Zen", if you will -- in waiting for that wave , as you sit on your board facing the ocean.. As you realize that you are not fully in control of nature, and how you can feel at peace. Plus the feeling of being "stoked", as the surfers say- it is incomparable.
I'm lucky that I live in the Philippines where we have access to lots of surf spots. My mid-year resolution: surf more!! It keeps me fit, physically and mentally. Have you tried it? I highly recommend it: ride the waves! Surf's up!
